The Cuatroochenta Chair leads the European InterGenic project, which aims to develop an educational framework for young and old to share experience and knowledge on digital skills and sustainable practices.

InterGenic is an Erasmus+ project of the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE). Its purpose is to develop an educational framework for intergenerational learning that supports the EU's digital and ecological transitions.

Its specific goals include improving the transfer of digital skills from the young to the old, reviving sustainable practices taught by the old to the young, proposing local solutions for the double transition and raising awareness while bridging the socio-epistemic gap between generations.

This type of initiative is also in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization to combat ageism in our society and to eliminate this barrier in order to build a more equitable future for all.

Digital equality and sustainability

In order to achieve these objectives, different types of activities will be carried out:

  • Training actions for young mentors and for older mentors, accompanied by specific training packages for each case.
  • In addition, joint intergenerational actions will be implemented throughout Europe.
  • An e-book with good practices will be generated and public awareness actions will be carried out during the 2 years of the project.

The European Union (EU) is immersed in a "double digital and ecological transition" that simultaneously addresses these two key processes to face contemporary challenges and move towards a sustainable future.

The "Digital Transition" involves the integration of digital technologies into society and the economy, seeking to improve efficiency, innovation and competitiveness, as well as fostering citizen participation.

The "Ecological or Green Transition" focuses on environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change. The EU seeks to reduce its environmental impact, address biodiversity loss, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by promoting sustainable practices, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Partners

The project is coordinated by the Cuatroochenta Chair of the UJI in a consortium that includes the universities Limasol of Cyprus and Odisee of Belgium, as well as the NGOs Innoedulab of Romania, InterAktion of Austria, Dyeko of Greece, and the companies Materia Group of Cyprus and Eurospeak of Ireland.

First steps

The first project meeting will be held in early December online to avoid unnecessary travel and to make the project more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

It will present the general guidelines, distribute the tasks, and shape the first actions corresponding to the training of young mentors in digital skills for seniors and the training of adult mentors to transmit traditional sustainable farming techniques to young people (among others).

Intergenic is a project that is perfectly aligned with the objectives of the Cuatroochenta Chair. Throughout the month of November and taking advantage of the presentation of results of the "Friendly Cities Report" at the Castellón City Council, InterGenic was also disseminated as the City Council is a collaborating entity of the same.

The project is a challenge for all participants as it will involve a large number of actors and events throughout Europe, working in two very different areas such as training in digital skills and training in sustainable agriculture techniques.
