LivAI
Proyecto
The objective of the Erasmus+ Making Adult Education lively through Artificial Intelligence (LivAI) project is to contribute to the ethical digital advancement of European communities through the creation of educational resources on artificial intelligence for adults. On the one hand, LivAI is aimed at providing knowledge and skills and, on the other hand, to have a certification framework that will standardize the competencies obtained and will allow a small but significant step towards improving quality assurance in adult education. To this end, a digital platform will be created that will allow the monitoring and evaluation of the three main target groups: adult educators, adult education institutions and adult learners.
Although educational resources on AI already exist, they are not easy to find in the field of AI ethics and, in particular, data management ethics, especially free of charge. Even if they are available, those materials are not tailored to the needs of educators and adult learners either because they are not supported by research, are intended for an academic audience and/or are designed for programmers who already have years of programming experience and do not focus on AI and data ethics.
The specific objectives of the project are::
- Increase institutional commitment to the implementation of EU guidelines on ethics in artificial intelligence.
- Create Open Educational Resources (OER) that provide and validate competencies in the field of data and AI.
- Promote the ethical use of data in education at all levels.
Work team
In addition to the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló de la Plana, represented by the Cuatroochenta Chair and the GIANT group, other organizations and institutions in the field of education and new technologies from countries such as Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland and Greece are participating in the project.
Project design and implementation
The program is structured in a series of work packages to be carried out by the different team members. The Cuatroochenta Chair team will be in charge of the overall monitoring process and will apply different methods to successfully monitor the achievement of the project outcomes. At the national level, the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló de la Plana will monitor the progress and work of the staff in relation to each of the project outcomes.
Specific Objective 1: Improving institutional commitment to the implementation of EU guidelines on ethics in artificial intelligence will be achieved through the following activities:
- Involvement of partners outside the project partnership.
- Registration of users and downloads of OER
- Successful implementation of the project
Specific Objective 2: Create Open Educational Resources (OER) that provide and validate competencies in the field of data and AI will be achieved through the following activities:
- Creation and launch of a Handbook for Understanding Ethics in the field of data and AI, and of an E-learning Platform with validation and certification of acquired competencies.
- Delivery of certificates to educators and adult learners.
- Adoption of OER in the daily work of adult centers across Europe.
Specific objective: Promote the ethical use of data in education at all levels.
- Launch of the dissemination campaign both online and offline across Europe.
- Institutional commitment to put into practice the certified knowledge acquired through digital PR.
- Organization of national hackathons and creation of a European network for ethical AI.
The communication and coordination work package aims to reinforce work package 1 and ensure the proper implementation of the other work packages, united under the first specific objective of the project: to improve institutional commitment to the implementation of the EU guidelines on ethics in AI in a manner consistent with the overall objective of the project.
Specific objective 1: Financial management
Specific Objective 2: Management of the reporting process
Specific Objective 3: Project participation management
The project, led by the directors of the Cuatroochenta Chair, brings together one of the best adult education centers in Italy (EPC), two AI and Big Data centers (KTT and UBI) and one of the best European certification centers (EFCOCert). The cooperation guarantees innovation and high quality of the project results that could not be achieved without the involvement of high-level partners. The project is innovative in the provision of very specific and relevant resources adapted to the level of knowledge and needs at the personal and institutional level. Another innovative element is the involvement of real AI and data professionals with academic staff to jointly research and create quality educational products. In addition, most of the material currently available online is in English. Having a platform available in different languages will open the doors of learning to many more people around the world.
